What do we do?

The Research Policy Office provides support for researchers in identifying potential impact, developing clear evidence for established impact, and supporting public engagement and communication in relation to the University’s impact agenda.

REF 2021 - Summer 2020 Internal Review: Guidance and Templates for Reviewers

In order to ensure that a comprehensive review is carried out in the current circumstances, a rolling review of case studies will take place over the summer.

We expect that each reviewer will be required to review no more than 3 case studies. The research impact team have allocated reviewers to each case study, and as each updated draft comes in, case studies will be released for comment.

Guidance and template review sheets can be found below. Reviewers may also wish to refer to the official REF guidance and indicators provided. We ask that case studies highlighted as having been severely impacted by Covid 19 are reviewed, and that reviewers' feedback comments are provided, but those case studies are not given an estimated score. All other case studies should be given an estimated score by the reviewer, as normal.

Reviewers should also be aware that the latest update from REF (June 2020) includes an extension to the impact assessment period for REF 2021.  Impacts occurring up until 31 December 2020 are now eligible for consideration.

If you have any questions about any aspect of this process, please contact Research Impact Manager, James Dillon (j.dillon@qub.ac.uk)
