Riddel Hall - conference
WHY SHOULD I BRING AN ACADEMIC CONFERENCE TO QUEEN’S?
The benefits of bringing a conference to Queen's and Belfast are notable and integral to the aspirations of Strategy 2030.

Conferences create international networks and are critical to showcasing our research, developing new partnerships, and attracting academic and student talent to Belfast, building our global reputation.

They are proven to:

  • Bring benefits to both personal and institutional reputation
  • Deliver an average £1m per conference economic impact to the city
  • Increase networks and attract potential talent
  • Showcase work and QUB facilities and campus
  • Impact Reputation and Rankings
  • Increase networks and collaboration opportunities
  • Showcase the university and help to attract potential talent

Bringing an academic conference to the University helps attract talent, build a global reputation, accelerate innovation, generate significant income from non-government sources and maximise local, global and societal impact.

There are clear advantages to personal reputation across local, national and global audiences, and the ability to enhance international networks through conferences is considerable. Further reading on the benefits of academic conferencing can be found in the following articles:

The impact that hosting a conference at Queen’s has on the University’s reputation is substantial, and the economic and social impact on the city and wider region is also substantial - an average conference delivers £1m economic impact to Northern Ireland. Conferences provide a platform to showcase the region and, importantly, the University as a place to do business, invest, work, study and live.

Attracting conferences in key discipline areas can positively influence global rankings, directly impacting international recruitment and research performance.

Support is available both internally and externally. The University Events Team work in partnership with Visit Belfast on every element, from researching opportunities to host conferences to presenting a tailored bid, site inspections, event management right through to developing a conference impact and legacy plan.
